Job description

MHEC (virtual Mental Health Emergency Care) offers an acute assessment/consultation service for crisis mental health presentations in some 50 Emergency Departments in the Western and Far Western LHD’s. Contact is predominantly via phone and audio-visual link, but there may be a requirement for the occasional face to face assessment in the Orange Health Service Emergency Department. We operate on a 24/7 rotating shift roster (12 hour and some 8 hour shifts).

The facility is located on the Bloomfield Hospital Campus of the Orange Health Service in a pleasant rural setting. Staff have access to Senior Psychiatrists and Registrars either face to face or via phone after hours.

The candidate must have previous acute mental health experience and be competent in conducting comprehensive mental health and risk assessments. The person must have a current knowledge of the NSW Mental Health Act. We deal with a large range of stake holders including schools, GP’s, Emergency Services and the general public. Staff at MHEC require oral and written communication skills and to be competent in the use of databases and electronic medical record systems.
